Day 2 Mens – Federer keen to get quest for seventh title underway
Published:Roger Federer begins his search for a seventh Wimbledon title on Tuesday against the Kazakhstan world number 60, Mikhail Kukushkin.
Federer has been eager to get onto the grass courts of Wimbledon and hasn’t been shy in talking up his chances, and at 1/200 to beat Kukushkin, this should be a walk in the park for the former world number one.
But while he will no doubt advance, because Federer is the current Wimbledon favourite there will be comparisons made with Nadal’s performances throughout the fortnight and should Federer fail to impress at any point, the Wimbledon winners odds will see plenty of movement.
Novak Djokovic also takes to the Wimbledon courts for the first time on Tuesday and the number two seed is 1/50 to defeat Frenchman Jeremey Chardy.
The two have never met on grass but Djokovic has never lost to Chardy and this should be another stroll in the park for a player who could feel rightly aggrieved about his 4/1 price to win the tournament.
John Isner vs Nicholas Mahut
In a repeat of last year’s phenomenal five-setter, Isner is the 1/2 favourite to progress with a repeat of his 3-2 victory last year available at 5/1.
The two met in the Hopman Cup earlier this year and the American was victourious on that occasion, but this will be Isner’s first match on grass this season and we could be in for another epic.
Take the 2/1 that this match goes five sets.
Kei Nishikori vs Leyton Hewitt
This will be the first time the two have met which makes this tie difficult to call from a punters view as the two players can boast solid grass court form.
Hewitt is the 11/10 underdog to win tomorrow and finds himself ranked 71 places below his opponent.
The Australian has suffered two first round defeats in his 11 Wimbledon appearances but while Nishikori is in strong form, Hewitt relishes the Wimbledon challenge and we’re backing him to come through in five sets at 11/2.
