QPR successful in bid for one of the Premier League’s top scorers

With all the wealth the Queens Park Rangers board can boast you can guarantee a number of moans and groans from the fans about their latest acquisition.

The QPR website have confirmed that the club have had a bid accepted by Blackpool for striker DJ Campbell, and while Campbell isn’t exactly the big name the Hoops fans were hoping for, he shouldn’t be underestimated.

Despite being relegated with Blackpool last season, Campbell was one of only 24 players that reached double figures in terms of goals last season, and his 13-goal haul put him joint sixth in the top scorers table.

Only Peter Odemwingie, Darren Bent, Robin Van Persie, Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov can boast more goals than DJ Campell in English football’s premier division last season, and Campbell will play a huge role in QPR’s fight for survival.

They may be the richest club in world football but it’s clear that the board are unwilling to extend the budget until the club become established in the Premier League.

That leaves Neil Warnock little to work with in the way of transfer budgets and so if he can convince Campbell that QPR are the right club, it’s a great move by the manager.

With Adel Taraabt’s propsed move to Paris Saint-Germain uncertain to go through, Campbell can form a partnership with the Frenchman similar to the one he formed with Charlie Adam last season.

Between them Campbell and Adam scored 25 Premier League goals last season and a partnership similar to that could be the catalyst to keep QPR in the Prmeier League.

QPR are currently 7/4 to be relegated and with the transfer funds not available to Warnock, that remains a big price.

But the potential signing of Campbell would be a huge plus for the club and, like last season, this relegation race is going to be tough for a number of clubs.
