Time is running out for Andy Murray to win his maiden Grand Slam

Andy Murray’s crushing defeat to David Ferrer at the quarter-final stage at Roland Garros means that the Scot is 6/1 to break his Grand Slam hoo doo on British Soil at Wimbledon this summer.

Murray’s French Open campaign came to an abrupt end when he was brushed aside in four sets by the dogged Ferrer, who later went on to be blown away at the semi-final stage by his fellow Spaniard Rafa Nadal.

The British number one endured yet another tournament where there was more talk about his fitness than his displays on the court.

The Scot was constantly complaining about a back injury throughout the event, casting doubt over his presence at the Queen’s Club and also leaving him with a race on his hands to be fit in time for his home Grand Slam.

Murray this week confirmed that he will in fact take part in the Wimbledon curtain raiser at Queens in order to prove he is ready to mount an assault at SW19.

The world number four will be looking to defend a title he won last year and has taken on two of the last three occasions.

He will be praying that this time a win in the coming week will prove a good omen for the tournament at the All England Club, and he can finally get the Grand Slam monkey off his back.

If he is to lift a first Wimbledon crown then the 25-year-old will have to surpass the world’s top three.

The Glasgow born racket wielder has long lived in the shadow of the world’s best, and Novak Djokovic’s dismantling of Roger Federer in the semis at the French will mean the 9/4 shot Serb will once again be the man to beat on Centre Court.

The other two masters of men’s tennis come in the shape of six-time Wimbledon winner, the 7/2 Roger Federer and the 5/2 two-time victor Rafa Nadal, who will both be eager to knock Djokovic off his perch.
