Chelsea poised for summer clear out as Oscar deal moves closer

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is to reveal his ruthless streak this summer with a clear out of some of Chelsea’s deadwood.

According to the Sun, several Chelsea stars – including winger Florent Malouda – have been told they are up for sale as Di Matteo trims his squad to the required 25.

Joining Malouda on the way out of Stamford Bridge looks likely to be Yossi Benayoun, Gael Kakuta, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne.

Di Matteo said: “The final decision on who will go and who will stay will be made at the beginning of August.”

It’s already been a summer of upheaval for the Blues, with striker and talisman Didier Drogba leaving after scoring the winning penalty in the Champions League final.

However, there is much to be optimistic about for Chelsea supporters, with several new signings signalling an intent to add flair to the silverware.

And Brazilian forward Oscar has now passed a medical and it looks like only a matter of time before a deal worth around £25million for the Internacional youngster.

Meanwhile, according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are also in talks with Marseille right back Cesar Azpilicueta.

The 22-year-old Spaniard had attracted attention from Chelsea while Andre Villas-Boas was in charge but the Blues halted their pursuit when his position at the club became increasingly strained.

Di Matteo’s dealings so far have obviously inspired a certain amount of faith in the Blues and they are expected to mount a serious challenge to win the Premier League.

They are the 9/2 third favourites to win the league and are a tiny 1/5 to do what they couldn’t do last year and finish in the top four.
