Liverpool could replace Carroll with Chelsea forward
Published:Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is thought to be keen on signing Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge if Andy Carroll leaves the club.
Sturridge is priced at 33/1 to be top Premier League goalscorer this season, and those odds may be slashed if he makes the switch to Anfield.
The 22-year-old is not considered a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge this term, having appeared from the bench in both of Chelsea’s opening games.
But Sturridge may welcome the chance to build on his 10 league strikes last season if he joins Rodgers’ revolution on Merseyside.
With the former Swansea boss looking to implement a fluid attacking style of football at Liverpool this season, Sturridge may fit the bill perfectly.
The Team GB forward is valued at around £20m by the Blues, and scored twice at the Olympic Games and holds two England caps.
However, any transfer may depend on the future of Liverpool’s £35m striker Andy Carroll.
Both Newcastle United and West Ham have made bids for the tall England frontman this summer, but neither has met the Reds’ valuation.
£20m is the reported sum that will acquire Carroll’s talents, with Newcastle stopping short of that so far with a £12m offer and the Hammers only able to afford a loan.
Therefore it may be that the Geordie striker remains at Liverpool for the coming season, but odds of 40/1 to be the division’s leading scorer should be avoided.
With the club also looking to move on Jay Spearing, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson following Joe Allen’s £15m arrival, transfer activity is set to continue.
Fulham’s Clint Dempsey remains on Rodgers’ wanted-list, and the Texan has made his intention to move clear to Fulham.
The 29-year-old was left out of the West Londoner’s squad for their opening weekend thrashing of Norwich and question marks remain over his future.
