Johnstone’s Paint Trophy: Get 28/1 on our fourfold

Mark Robins seems to have steered Coventry onto surer ground since his side got drubbed 6-1 by Arsena in the Capital One Cup. They’ve gone unbeaten in three since then and feature as the best value bet in our Johnstone’s Paint Trophy fourfold.

They are not the longest price on the accumulator, but their odds of 7/5 to win at League Two’s York City play a key part in inflating it’s odds to 28/1.

Robins currently has the Sky Blues on a three-match unbeaten run after inheriting a team whose sole victory was in the Capital One Cup first round prior to his arrival. Since Arsenal slogged them for six, they have restricted opposition to just one goal in three outings, which sees them well-placed ahead of their trip to York.

The Minstermen have picked up maximum points in just one of their last seven and failed to find the back of the net in their last three home games. On top of this, they’ve only managed to pick up a single win at Bootham Crescent all season.

Coventry’s price is very generous taking all of this into consideration and expect their unbeaten streak to continue beyond this one.

Morecambe entertain Preston – a 6/5 shot and the second selection in this fourfold – have a poor record at home and the League One outfit will be the latest club to profit from this.

Alike York, they’ve only won once and the 12 goals they’ve shipped in front of their own fans is the division’s worst record.

North End have been steady on the road the season, losing 3-1 at Oldham last time out off the back of beating Doncaster by the same scoreline at the Keepmoat and their goal-scoring prowess – they’ve bagged 14 in their last six – will see them prevail in this all-Lancashire clash.

Portsmouth are also on a bit of a roll of late, if you compare current form to the dismal start they made. Seven points from nine available is the best return they’ve had from any three-game spell so far this season and League Two strugglers Wycombe travel to the south coast at the wrong time.

They’ve lost four games on the bounce away from Adams Park and you fear for them again here, with the hosts’ status of odds-on favourites a rarity since their relegation from the Championship – they’re 4/6 to win this contest in 90 minutes.

Bradford have tailed off in recent weeks after a strong start in League Two and this will have contributed to their big price of 11/5 to win at Hartlepool.

Their cup form has been strong, however, winning all of the knockout clashes they’ve played to date, including two against opposition who ply their trade at a higher level.

Sitting one place from the foot of England’s third tier, Hartlepool have got more pressing concerns than the JPT and will have half an eye on upcoming league action at the weekend, which the Bantams will be able to capitalise on.
