Van Persie’s Stoke record suggests goal drought can end at Britannia

Published:

Robin van Persie’s goal drought is bordering on the levels previously associated with Fernando Torres at Chelsea, with his blank at home to Manchester City meaning he has gone 10 games without a goal for the Red Devils.

Various reasons have been given for this lack of goals, but bearing in mind that he has scored in both fixtures for Holland in this barren run, a lack of supply from the Manchester United midfield may be the best argument put forward.

It has been 684 minutes since Van Persie last found himself on the Man Utd scoresheet, which was in a 2-0 win over Everton in early February and this form is a far cry from the 11 goals he netted in as many fixtures throughout December and January.

Stoke present the next opportunity for Van Persie to rediscover the scoring touch and they must be counted among his favoured opposition.

In his last five appearances against the Potters, the Dutchman has been on target seven times, including on his last two visits to the Britannia.

With Stoke in such disastrous form at present too, collecting just five points throughout the whole of 2013 thus far, a defence low on confidence is there to be taken advantage of.

It is 4/5 that Van Persie’s next goal comes against Stoke.

Alternatively, if he draws another blank at the Britannia, Man Utd’s next game comes at Old Trafford against West Ham, who Van Persie has scored in both his clashes against this season. 11/5 is the price that his next goal is against the Hammers.

The interesting option in this market of where Van Persie will score next is the 12/1 that it arrives against former club Arsenal and this fixture could well be the one where Sir Alex Ferguson’s side confirm their 13th Premier League title.
