Bristol City’s Baldock great price to be League One top scorer

Published:

Priced up at 16/1, Bristol City striker Sam Baldock looks a fantastic bet to be the top scorer in League One this season.

The former MK Dons man was a regular goalscorer at this level during his MK Dons days, so much so that it convinced Sam Allardyce to take a punt on him in the Championship. While this move may not have been the most successful in the history of British transfers, his time with the now-Premier League establishment will surely have improved his ability to star in the third tier.

He registered 32 goals in 70 starts at this level with the Dons between 2008 and 2011, and proved his lack of game time at Upton Park hadn’t diminished his eye for goal by notching 10 for Bristol City in 23 starts of their dismal 2012/13 campaign.

With his track record in the division and the experience he’s gleaned at a higher level, Baldock has to be considered a frontrunner for the top scorers award in League One, especially with his side equipped with the tools to win the title this term.

Should the Robins ensure he stays at Ashton Gate, and there’s been no noises to suggest that won’t be the case, he’s in for a real chance of topping the scoring charts come May.

Another interesting prospect that might be worth an each-way flutter is Bradford’s Nahki Wells.

The Bermudan-born striker showcased that he’s an unquestionable talent in the lower leagues when he terrorised Arsenal and Aston Villa during his side’s journey to the Capital One Cup final.

He’s a 20/1 shot to claim the mantle 8/1-rated Leigh Griffiths is favoured to win but, playing for a newly promoted side, the biggest stumbling block his chances face is whether he’ll be given the necessary service to put the ball in the net on a frequent basis.

Bradford are in a better financial state than most outside of the top two divisions, however, and should they furnish their ranks with sufficient quality to compete in League One, Wells – who’s bagged 28 in 72 Bantams games – could find himself in amongst the leading scorers come the end of the season.
