Hamilton and Lewis to easily make World Matchplay quarters
Published:The first four quarter finalists in the World Matchplay are now known and the full line-up will soon be completed, with Andy Hamilton and Adrian Lewis among those expected to make the most serene progress into the last eight.
Andy Hamilton to beat Ian White @ 4/11
White caused a bit of a turn-up in the first round when beating Robert Thornton, but another shock is unlikely against Hamilton, who was even more impressive when swatting aside Ronnie Baxter.
Hamilton’s greater experience in these longer-type matches should be an additional advantage and he can prevent White making a first Matchplay quarter final.
Adrian Lewis (-4.5 legs) to beat Brendan Dolan @ 8/11
Lewis has won all of the last three with Dolan and arrives in Blackpool in good form following his trophy-claiming performance at the European Championships.
If repeating that form here, he should win this at a canter, but the slower and more methodical style of Dolan could become an irritant.
Each of these three previously-mentioned meetings ended 6-4, but Lewis can take this more comfortably.
Peter Wright (+4.5 legs) to beat Michael van Gerwen @ 1/1
Van Gerwen has won all of the last 10 meetings between this pair dating back over two years, but it is interesting that the majority have been fairly tight.
The Dutchman scored well in the first round, but was still unable to shake off Colin Lloyd after missing darts at doubles and a similar outcome can be expected here.
Wright is also scoring well and should be able to hang close enough to the favourite to cover the handicap.
Jamie Caven to beat Dave Chisnall @ 4/5
Caven must hold a significant edge here simply through his 6-0 demolition of Chisnall earlier in July at the European Championship, which took his advantage in the head-to head stakes to 6-2.
Meanwhile, the Chizzy Rascal has only reached the quarter finals in four of his last 20 tournaments, with Caven winning twice since the start of May and making another three quarter finals.
