Crawley headline our opening day League One accumulator

Published:

The football season roars back into action this weekend and as expectant accumulators are penned up and down the country Ladbrokes have put together a four-fold to provide a profitable opening day.

Crawley to beat Coventry @ 5/4

Crawley had a very promising season after getting promoted from League Two last time out and they should be backed to take advantage of a Coventry side who are riddled with problems.

It’s going to be difficult for the Sussex side to better that effort but they will be looking to this first fixture as a chance to claim some early momentum. The Sky Blues are struggling to make any sense at the moment and their campaign really could go either way. The signs are not good though for Cov and the home team should be backed to frank the form of their last meeting in this fixture which saw Crawley post a 2-0 win.

Bristol City to beat Bradford @ 5/6

Bristol City should start life in the third tier with a win against a Bradford side who survived the League Two play-off gauntlet last year to commence their ascent back up the football pyramind.

In search of encouragement for the home side, it is easy to rest on the convenient reality that this time last term they were playing two divisions apart. However, there is every chance that nerves will play a part and if they do the newly-promoted Bantams are most susceptible. At a shade of odds-on, one of the league’s ante-post favourites can be relied upon with confidence.

Preston to beat Wolves @ 13/8

There aren’t many teams around who can match the disarray of the aforementioned Coventry but Wolves would have a strong case. Since the sacking of Mick McCarthy – the beginning of a series of increasingly wayward decisions by the board – the club has been in freefall. Conversely, Preston have had no shortage of confidence placed behind them for the season ahead and are buoyed by the arrival of Kevin Davies, amongst others, who could conceivably make the difference. The contrast in well-being between the sides merits the North End’s inclusion.

Port Vale to beat Brentford @ 9/5

Finally Port Vale should not be underestimated in their seasonal bow against many people’s tip for the title, Brentford. There is no doubt that the Bees will have a renewed steel this time around after coming agonisingly close to escaping the league earlier this year but there is just as much chance that they will be haunted by those memories . It’s always difficult to assess a new side in this league but if Vale get ahead and things start to go against Brentford it will be difficult for their players t look forward instead of back.
