Forest refusing to be cut down in Championship promotion race
Published:They say that good things come in threes, and that is certainly the case for Nottingham Forest’s Championship campaign so far.
On Saturday, Billy Davies’ side recorded their third three points from three games this season with a 3-0 win over Bolton which featured three different goalscorers.
Not one to prolong a theme, Jamie Mackie gave Forest the lead in the second minute, before second half strikes from Andy Reid and Henri Lansbury confirmed a convincing win against opponents who had Darren Pratley sent off with the score at 2-0.
The victory, coupled with the earlier 1-0 wins over Blackburn and Huddersfield, sees Forest cut to 6/1 to lift the Championship trophy at the end of the campaign, whilst they are 15/8 to earn promotion to the Premier League after 15 years away.
Only QPR and Watford are priced shorter in those markets, and they were both involved in late drama on Saturday.
The Rs made it seven points from nine available this season thanks to their last gasp 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Loftus Road, where young debutant Tom Hitchcock grabbed the winner in the last minute.
As in pre-season, Harry Redkanpp’s side are still out on their own as favourites for the Championship title at 4/1, whilst they are available at 6/4 to earn immediate promotion back to the Premier League via any means.
Watford remain at 9/2 to win the league, a price which still looks solid thanks to their fight back from 2-0 and 3-1 down to draw 3-3 at Reading.
Diego Fabbrini prodded home the equaliser a minute from time to earn Gianfranco Zola’s side a point at the Madejski Stadium, with the Hornets now a tasty 7/4 to go up.
