Watford v Forest: Hornets can show sting in summit meeting

Published:

Heading into the weekend these two have been the pair to beat in the Championship, with Watford boasting the best goalscoring record and Nottingham Forest the only team not to concede.

That fate should decide they meet so early in the season ensures that this will be a serious test of promotion credentials for both, but it’ll be Gianfranco Zola’s Watford who are likely to be relishing the contest more.

The Hornets are 11/10 to win a match that, despite Forest’s miserly defensive record this season, looks guaranteed to produce goals.

Including the League Cup, Watford have scored 13 goals in their four matches so far this season, whilst they found the net five times in their two meetings with Forest in the last campaign.

Despite so agonisingly missing out on promotion having lost the Championship play-off final to Crystal Palace at Wembley in May, there has been little sign of a hangover for the Hornets, who look a good bet to beat Forest with both teams scoring in the match at a price of 31/10.

Billy Davies’ side have been rock solid so far this season, managing to keep a clean sheet in their three league matches on the way to the top of the table.

Yet in Huddersfield, Blackburn and Bolton they have yet to face a team of Watford’s attacking ability, with the hosts returning to the scene of their 6-1 victory over newly-promoted Bournemouth in their previous home match two weeks ago.

Troy Deeney bagged a hat-trick in that game and the forward is 9/2 to open the scoring this time around, whilst he’s available to 20/1 to register yet another treble.

The clever selection might be the Deeney Wincast though, with the marksman to fire in a Watford win available at 15/8.
