Man Utd as likely to win the league as Liverpool after Saints draw

Manchester United’s mid-table misery continued on Saturday as they succumbed to a late Southampton leveller in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Adam Lallana reacted quickest to Dejan Lovren’s stab goalwards to bundle home the visitors’ equaliser with just a minute of normal time remaining, condemning United – who had led through Robin van Persie – to their third set of dropped points in four home matches.

The draw briefly took the again impressive Saints up to fourth in the table ahead of Manchester City’s 3-1 win at West Ham, but the onus is again on David Moyes following another disappointing result for his team, who now sit eighth with 11 points from eight games.

The reigning champions are now a huge 8/1 to follow up last year’s success with another league title, as big a price as they’ve been for years at this stage of the season, and perhaps more alarmingly for United fans the same price as rivals Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have made a good start to their campaign but they remain very much a work in progress, a fact borne out by their 2-2 draw at Newcastle in which they failed to take advantage of the visitors going down to 10 men late in the first half.

Moyes remains the man with the most problems though, especially after seeing three of his supposed title rivals all move away from the Red Devils with impressive victories.

Manchester City continue to head the betting thanks to that 3-1 win at Upton Park, where Sergio Aguero grabbed a brace and teed up David Silva to fire the third.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men are 13/8 to clinch the club’s second league title in three seasons, a shorter price than the 23/10 Chelsea and Arsenal at 9/2.

Samuel Eto’o scored his first goal in the Premier League as the Blues came from a goal down to see off Cardiff 4-1 at Stamford Bridge, whilst Mesut Ozil got his first two strikes in the division as the Gunners beat Norwich by the same scoreline.
