Aberdeen deserve to lead market for race to be best of the rest

Aberdeen moved into second place behind leaders Celtic in the SPL courtesy of their third consecutive home victory, a 4-0 thumping of Partick Thistle.

Derek McInnes’ side are now 11/8 clear favourites to come top of the division, with the Glasgow giants taken out of the equation, and on current form those odds would look more than fair.

Their last victory was The Dons third consecutive three-point haul in the league and their fourth in a row overall following a 2-0 League Cup away day success over their nearest challengers in the betting, Motherwell.

The Steelmen are 5/2 to finish runners-up this term and are only a point shy of Aberdeen in the table. However, their initial good form on the road seems to have fallen away in recent weeks with no goals scored and no points collected in their last two matches away from Fir Park.

Inverness lie third in the betting but sit ahead of Motherwell in the table at 3/1 and if able to take advantage of their game in hand over both of their nearest pursuers they would go ahead of Aberdeen into second spot.

But it is Aberdeen who look the most tempting selection considering the momentum they have at present, and with a sequence of winnable games coming up a good run could see them gain some breathing space from the chasing pack in the coming weeks.

The Dons host Hearts and St Mirren in their next two in the Granite City, and despite a difficult run of visits ahead, including trips to Parkhead and the Caledonian Stadium, by the time they welcome Motherwell to the coldest city in Europe they could be looking down from above rather than nervously below.
