Hull, Palace and Sunderland all prepared to take Bendtner gamble
Published:Arsenal’s nomadic Danish international Nicklas Bendtner will be the subject of bids from several Premier League teams in January, despite failing to impress back at his parent club.
Had Arsene Wenger succeeded in bringing in another top class striker this summer, to offer support to lone ranger Olivier Giroud, then there’s every chance Bendtner would have been shelved already.
As it was, no such striker materialised, leaving Wenger little choice other than to rebuff approaches from newly promoted Crystal Place and Hull, as well as Sunderland; the club where Bendtner spent the whole of the 2011/12 season on loan.
As many predicted, the uber confident Dane has failed to make any impact during Arsenal’s stellar start to the season, where he’s been limited to a handful of substitute appearances and a couple of Capital One Cup starts.
He certainly hasn’t been missed in the Premier League, where the Gunners’ recent win over Liverpool sees them five points clear at the summit and priced as 11/4 title shots with Ladbrokes.
With his current contract due to expire at the end of the 2013/14 campaign, Arsenal will certainly look to cash in on Bendtner, while they go in pursuit of another centre-forward.
Even though the divisive Dane will not be missed by many Gooners, the same three clubs who came in for his services in the summer transfer window, are all reportedly prepared to swoop again in January.
The common theme is three sides desperate for goals, with bottom side Palace having mustered just six, while Sunderland and Hull have only registered eight apiece.
Having scored eight goals in 28 Premier League appearances on-loan at the Stadium of Light, this could put Sunderland at the front of the queue, though it is likely to become a straight-out bidding war.
