Another high-scoring thriller in store as Liverpool host Everton

Published:

The rivalry between Everton and Liverpool is solidified in football folklore, but their Premier League meeting in November paved the way for a much closer, hard-to-call future for the pair’s clashes.

The end-to-end three-all draw at Goodison Park was the third successive stalemate between Merseyside’s two biggest clubs. Now, with just one point separating them in the table after 22 games, the battle for the fourth Champions League place has really reignited the local war, much like our recent Mix n Match XI.

Another straight up deadlock is available at 11/4 in the match betting market, with Liverpool the 17/20 favourites for victory and Everton 16/5 chance.

However, further trends point to a bet on the total result and, in particular, a flutter on this derby being a draw with over 2.5 goals scored, which is available at the healthy price of 17/2.

Aside from the current string previously mentioned, the fact that the great rivals have lost just one home and one away game each this season suggests that these two will be hard to separate again.

What’s more, in three of the last four shares of the points between the red and blue halves of Merseyside, the game has seen over 2.5 goals scored.

Goals tend to be the order of the day in matches both at Anfield and involving Liverpool generally this season too, which aids the theory that this derby will also oblige. Seven of their 11 league home games and 11 of the last 12 overall seeing over 2.5 net ripplers.

As a standalone bet, it’s 4/7 that the game sees over 2.5 goals scored but given the sides’ affinity for a draw recently, it’ll pay far more to combine that fact with a high scoring encounter in the total result market.
