Ladbrokes offers hope to Heskey fans after knighthood snub

David Beckham may be in-line for a knighthood but one England legend who definitely won’t be getting the vaunted ‘Sir’ prefix is Emile Heskey after a petition was rejected by the government.

According to a report in the Leicester Mercury, Foxes fan Daniel McCarthy recently launched a bid to have the 36-year-old honoured for his services to the sport.

The petition submitted on the 10 Downing Street website back in March explained: “Emile has changed the way the game is played.

“He is an experienced, well-loved and all round genius player.”

While it had the fans’ backing, David Cameron opted against it, but fear not – because Ladbrokes has an accumulator featuring the five teams Heskey previously starred for – and, obviously, that doesn’t include England.

Leicester City to beat Huddersfield @ 6/5

Heskey’s first club may already be bound for the Premier League but manager Nigel Pearson has set his sights on a record Championship points tally with a trip to meet a Terriers team with one win in 11 offering an easy three points.

Liverpool to beat Chelsea @ 4/6

Jose Mourinho has already outlined his plans to field a weakened team at Anfield, meaning this looks like the kind of game where even Emile would have got amongst the goals for the Reds, who have won 11 in a row in the Premier League.

Birmingham City to beat Leeds @ 11/10

Heskey’s old club Birmingham could come calling for the big man if they drop into League One, which should be more than enough incentive for the Blues to bag three points against a Leeds team that has lost four of their last five on the road.

Wigan to beat Blackpool @ 1/2

Emile averaged a goal every five games for the Latics during his spell there but thankfully Wigan have been in rampant form this term, winning 3-0 last time out at home against Reading. Even Heskey would struggle not to score against a Blackpool side with two wins in their last 28 games.

Aston Villa to beat Swansea City @ 4/1

The curtain came down on Heskey’s time in the Premier League with a less-than-spectacular spell at Aston Villa and if the Clarets are to avoid a similar top-flight exit they will need to overcome a Swansea side with little to play for and just one win from their last five at the Liberty Stadium.
