Strong end to campaign expected from Manchester Utd under Giggs

The joke’s been on Manchester United ever since Sir Alex Ferguson opted to spend more time with his horses, but the outgoing champions can get a few laughs of their own before the campaign closes under interim coach Ryan Giggs.

Even former gaffer David Moyes – who oversaw dropped points at Old Trafford against the likes of West Brom, Southampton, Newcastle and Fulham – would expect to bank the maximum from home games against Norwich, Sunderland and Hull, despite the first two teams’ precarious plights.

Ladbrokes are offering 5/1 about Man Utd winning their next four matches, and with only Southampton – who are struggling for form themselves having lost six of their last 10 in all competitions – to visit between now and mid-May, that looks a bet worth taking.

United have beaten each of the sides they’re yet to face at home in the reverse fixtures and their travails in front of the faithful have largely been against the Premier League’s bigger guns, as they’ve claimed 16 points from a possible 21 at home against teams currently in the bottom half.

None of the aforementioned trio have escaped a beating on their last three league visits to Old Trafford, and considering United were the only top-four finishers that managed a win at St Mary’s last term, this 5/1 wager stands a great chance of landing.

Giggs reportedly told his new charges during his first team talk that they will go back to playing like Manchester United, which must mean more attacking intent from a side that’s struck just over half the amount of home league goals so far this season than at the same stage in 2012/13.

With that in mind, expect teenage forward Adnan Januzaj – who’s just declared for the Belgium national side and could yet make it into Marc Wilmots’ World Cup squad – to return to the starting line up against the Canaries for the first time since the mid-March loss to Liverpool.

Januzaj is 11/5 to score at anytime against Neil Adams’ side, with the hosts 31/10 to bag four or more goals and 4-0 Man Utd – which was the scoreline on Norwich’s last two visits – is priced up at 16/1.
