Chelsea must follow Dortmund’s lead in pursuit of Swansea star
Published:In his first season in England, Swansea’s Spanish bargain, Michu, took all the plaudits as he accustomed himself to life as a Premier League striker with ease.
The former Rayo Vallecano man scored 18 times in his debut season at the Liberty Stadium, earning rave reviews from all corners and even links with a switch to Arsenal that summer.
Not content to rest on their bargain-hunting laurels, the Welsh club bought in Ivorian Wilfried Bony for the 2013/14 campaign and have enjoyed similar, if less roundly applauded, success.
Bony’s 15 goals in 26 Premier League starts represents an impressive first season for the Swans yet the former Vitesse hitman has none of the top-flight’s big sides chasing his signature.
That’s not to say powerhouse outfits across the continent aren’t interested in signing the 25-year-old, as Borussia Dortmund supposedly have the Bingerville-native’s name on their list of potential replacements for Robert Lewandowski.
Considering half of the current top-six in England are in need of a new striker, Bony should take it as an insult that his name hasn’t cropped up in more transfer rumours involving the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton until now.
Jose Mourinho, whose men are 4/9 to beat Cardiff next time out, has bleated on about wanting a more reliable front man for what seems an eternity. He should therefore follow Jurgen Klopp’s lead and begin an earnest pursuit of Swansea’s latest polished diamond.
Bony has scored more Premier League goals than any member of the Chelsea set up this term, giving himself ample opportunity to find the net by shooting 3.2 times per game on average – a figure that also betters anybody from Stamford Bridge.
So while links to the likes of Radamel Falcao and Diego Costa are all very glamorous, the fact remains that other viable options are being overlooked for reasons that seem unknown.
