Federer and Djokovic to prolong Wimbledon status quo in semis

| 04.07.2014

‘Murray Mound’ maybe redundant for now, but there are still two tantalising men’s semi-finals to enjoy at Wimbledon, as bright young talents Grigor Dimitriov and Milos Raonic look to usher in a new era against Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

However, as you’ll see from our list of best bets from this pair of last-four clashes, we’re expecting a repeat of the 2012 semi-final once the action is complete.

Novak Djokovic (1/4) v Grigor Dimitriov (3/1)

Djokovic to win 3-1 @ 12/5

Even though Djokovic won this pair’s last Grand Slam meeting in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 at the 2013 French Open, Dimitriov has improved vastly in the year since and is bound to trouble the world number two on grass.

However, as good as Dimitriov was in dumping out the defending champion the fact he has only taken one set off Djokovic in four past meetings, should see the Serbian prevail.

Over 39.5 games @ 4/5

This is a tussle which we expect to be close. Three of the last seven sets these two have contested went to a tiebreak and if at least one does here there’s a very good chance this line will be breached.

Roger Federer (1/3) v Milos Raonic (12/5)

Federer to win @ 1/3

Federer last met his Canadian opponent in the fourth- round of last year’s Australian Open and triumphed quite comfortably in the end 6-4, 7-6, 6-2.

Although the 23-year-old world number nine has improved since then, that marked his fourth defeat to seven-time Wimbledon winner in as many matches.

First set to go to a tiebreak @ 1/1

Far from being a procession this contest is extremely likely to contain at least one tiebreak, especially as Raonic owns the fastest serve at SW19 and has laid down 84 more aces than Fed.

Meanwhile, three of the last six sets the foes have contested went to a tiebreak including the opener in half of their previous matches.
