Meet the 3 clubs that will miss the boat if Palace sign Spurs man

Published:

On first viewing, Gylfi Sigurdsson wouldn’t be a sensible signing for any Premier League club this summer.

In 14 starts and 11 substitute appearances in the Premier League in the last campaign, Sigurdsson failed to provide a single assist and didn’t even average two shots per game.

However, any suitors will be hoping the Icelandic international rediscovers the form of his loan stint at Swansea during the 2011/12 campaign, when scoring seven times and averaging virtually four shots per game.

Crystal Palace have reportedly had an offer of £8m accepted and his attributes seem to be a perfect fit to the Eagles, who averaged the fewest shots in the Premier League last season, alongside finishing bottom of the possession stats.

Yet there are at least three clubs with bigger ambitions that should be considering Sigurdsson, who certainly have the ability to be competing for a Europa League place.

Newcastle

The Toon scored fewer goals than anyone else to finish in the top half last season and have already taken giant strides to improve their attacking impetus from midfield through Remy Cabella and Siem de Jong.

Sigurdsson would provide a more direct option though and one with experience of the rough and tumble of the Premier League.

West Ham

The Hammers’ direct style would suit Sigurdsson and their chief midfield goal-getter Kevin Nolan is now 32.

Sigurdsson scores a wider range of goals than Nolan too.

Stoke

Mark Hughes is beginning to get more creativity into his team, especially the wider areas, and Sigurdsson would be a big asset to finishing off these moves.
