Premier League: 3 things to look forward to this weekend

Published:

The Premier League season is only a week old and we’ve already had our fair share of upsets, scandals and top notch action.

This weekend promises to be no different and with Everton v Arsenal and Manchester City v Liverpool topping the bill there is plenty to look forward to.

Here Ladbrokes News’ James Curtis highlights his wish list for the weekend with relevant odds included.

Sturridge to net in a Liverpool win over City

As a United supporter it’s difficult to pick a winner out of Liverpool and City but given that both teams can’t lose I’m going to plump for the away side and with my England hat on hope to see Daniel Sturridge further prove to his old employers what they are missing.

The Liverpool star has hit the ground running with a goal in the first game of the season and now stands at 34 strikes from his first 50 Reds games. Incredible.

Ladbrokes will be boosting his first player to score odds to 7/1 from 12:15 on Saturday until the first goal of Aston Villa v Newcastle in what could prove the best bet of the weekend.

Alexis Sanchez to dazzle against Everton

Having lost Luis Suarez’s talent to La Liga I’m hoping to see the man that moved in the opposite direction show why Gooners were so excited to see him arrive.

The Chilean has the potential to become the new Thierry Henry in north London and if utilised as an out-and-out striker by Arsene Wenger should bag plenty of goals.

Again despite his prolific record for scoring in La Liga the player is available at a tempting price to net first at Goodison Park.

Romelu Lukaku is the favourite at 5/1 but I’ll be backing Sanchez to open his account with the first goal at 6/1.

Marcos Rojo to inspire an improved performance from Manchester United’s defence

The United back three looked all at sea against Swansea and forced manager Louis van Gaal to ditch his favoured formation for 4-4-2 at half time.

Rojo’s arrival for £16m has brought a certain amount of relief to Red Devils fans and with Luke Shaw still injured the Argentine is expected to make his debut at the Stadium of Light.

With the press jumping on United’s back after one poor result – and to be fair they dominated the play against the Swans – it’d be good to see Rojo inspire United to a win on his first game to give LVG at bit of breathing space for the remainder of the transfer window.

The bookies seem to be impressed with the signing of the former Sporting Lisbon man too, with the 20-time champions priced at 3/2 to keep a clean sheet against Sunderland.
