Burnley transfer watch: Boyd in as Clarets bid to bolster squad

| 01.09.2014

Burnley are on the verge of signing Hull City’s attacking midfielder George Boyd on a three-year-deal, according to reports.

Sky Sports have confirmed that the Clarets have agreed a fee of £3m with Hull to bring the former Peterborough midfielder Boyd to Turf Moor as the Premier League newboys aim to bolster their ranks.

Burnley collected their first point of the season with a creditable 0-0 draw against Manchester United at the weekend.

But manager Sean Dyche is all too aware of the mammoth task he faces to keep the Lancashire side in the top flight, with Ladbrokes making Burnley odds-on at 1/2 to suffer the drop.

It is Hull’s alleged pursuit of Marseille winger Andre Ayew that looks likely to signal the end of Boyd’s Tiger’s career.

Having notched 74 goals in 290 appearances for Peterborough the 28-year-old moved to the KC Stadium in 2013.

However, a meagre return of just two goals in 29 league games followed in his first season in the top flight and Boyd now finds himself deemed surplus to requirements by Hull boss Steve Bruce.

A move to Burnley could well see the Scotland international resurrect his career but will he be the only signing Burnley make before the window slams shut?

Rumours suggest that Dyche is the market for defensive reinforcements and has money to spend following promotion to the Premier League.

Versatile Chelsea youngster Nathan Chalobah is one named being mentioned with the Daily Mail reporting that a season-long loan deal for the 19-year-old’s services is to be agreed.

Capable of operating as either a defender or midfielder, the powerful England under-21 international could be set for a taste of senior club action in the top flight having never appeared for the Blues’ first team.
