Championship Acca: An easy Middlesbrough win heads our picks

Published:

It may be a Champions League night, but there is no need to neglect the domestic action, with a full quota of fixtures from the Championship to get stuck into.

And while it is admittedly a tricky division to pin down, we believe we have picked out a very tasty fourfold priced up at just shy of 18/1 to boost your midweek coffers.

Read on to hear our reasoning…

Middlesbrough to win to nil vs Blackpool @ 21/20

It’s been a start to the season to forget for Blackpool, lacking personnel for much of pre-season, before struggling to compete on the pitch.

They have found the net just once on the road this season, and have picked up just the solitary point away from Bloomfield Road in four matches.

Middlesbrough meanwhile look like real promotion contenders this season, sat in sixth with three wins in their last four, as well as keeping three straight clean sheets in the league. This one looks a safe bet.

Norwich vs Charlton – Both teams to score @ 19/20

A home win here looks a safe pick, but at 8/15 the value is elsewhere, as we look for goals.

The Carrow Road faithful have been treated to some crackers this season, with the Canaries finding the net 12 times in their five games at home in all competitions so far.

But for all their attacking prowess their defence has been leaky, keeping just the one clean sheet in that quintet of games on their own patch.

It’s a similar story for Charlton. The Addicks have both scored and conceded in all four of their league games on the road this campaign.

Blackburn to beat Rotherham @ 8/5

Rotherham were one of the pre-season favourites for relegation, and while they haven’t been pulling up any trees, the fight they put up at the start of the campaign was admirable.

Nevertheless, they have begun to struggle lately, picking up just two points in their last five games.

Blackburn aren’t setting the world alight, but they should have too much for Gary Bowyer’s side here.

Rovers showed great reserve to come back from two down to secure a point against Watford at the weekend, and with Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes banging in nine goals between them they have a front line to be feared.

Cardiff +1 vs Brighton @ 4/5

Cardiff’s attempt to appoint Russell Slade as Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s successor rumbles on and we fancy caretaker manager Danny Gabbidon to bring back at least a point from the Amex tonight, as he continues his reign.

The signing of Ravel Morrison on loan only bolsters the Bluebirds quality on the pitch, and a win against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday could be the boost they need to start picking up results.

Brighton look set to be without key players Sam Baldock and Inigo Calderon, the former through injury, while the latter is suspended, and look worth taking on.
