After a diabolical defeat to CSKA Moscow at the Etihad in midweek, even the most belligerent of Sky Blues fans will be a little hesitant about backing the Premier League champions this weekend, despite the fact they are in action against what is, on paper, the division’s second worst team.
A price of 9/20 on a City win is unlikely to entice many into backing Manuel Pellegrini’s men to deliver a much-needed win, while Queens Park Rangers’ lowly status could well put you off a home victory at 6/1 with the draw available at 15/4 with Ladbrokes.
With that in mind, we’ve had a look at all the available markets to bring you three bets that could help City and QPR fans alike come out of this encounter with their finances a little better off.
With Rickie Lambert called up to the England squad, Charlie Austin may feel slightly aggrieved not to have claimed a place himself, having scored roughly 500 per cent more goals than the Liverpool benchwarmer this season.
A home encounter with Manchester City is the perfect opportunity for Austin to show Roy Hodgson what he is missing, with the Sky Blues keeping just one clean sheet in their last six games and the Rs hotshot scoring three goals in their last four games at Loftus Road.
This is a tip motivated by simple maths – or rather the persistent presence of the number two in QPR’s goals scored margin and Man City’s goals conceded.
Rangers have scored two goals in each of their previous three home games while the Citizens have shipped exactly two goals in four of their last five competitive encounters and conceded two the last time these two met on that fateful day back in May 2012.
As much as I try, I simply cannot bring myself to back the red-faced Harry Redknapp to guide the Rs to victory, while a straightforward City win looks equally unlikely. Instead, the price on a Sky Blues win with both teams scoring looks the pick of the bunch.
Both teams found the net in three of City’s six wins in the Premier League this season, and after seeing Hull lose 2-4 at home to the champions, we fancy a similar outcome here. After all, the last game between the two ended in a 3-2 win for City – life was so much simpler back then.
