Spurs striker duping fans into thinking the side has steel

Only one team has collected more points on the road than Tottenham this season, but only three have fewer to their name than Mauricio Pochettino’s club when playing in front of their own fans.
The rhetoric that has defined the Lilywhites’ season so far continued in the north east this weekend, as Spurs came from behind to claim their third away win of the Premier League campaign, against Hull.
The result prompted the below tweet from goal-hero Harry Kane, who was full of praise for Tottenham’s spirit and called for some “momentum” as the club look to build a charge for the top-four, which Ladbrokes rate as a 7/1 chance:

As easy as it is to let Kane, whose performances have been a rare bright spot in a frustrating season, fan the flames of optimism at White Hart Lane, the striker is doing nothing but pulling the wool over Tottenham fans’ eyes.
The spirit to which the England U21 hotshot refers boils down to two fight-back results, against Aston Villa and then Hull, where Spurs have looked their usual abject selves, gone in at half-time one down, then rallied with two late goals after one of the opposition has been sent off.
In the carbon copy encounters, Spurs players have engineered those red cards by engaging the offender first. Ryan Mason was the aggressor in Christian Benteke’s dismissal at Villa while Jan Vertonghen was the catalyst in Gaston Ramirez’ Hull red.
Whether by design or not, Spurs have bridged the gap to the top four to just two points on the back of these wins, which instil little confidence in them landing a spot come May.
The fact remains that their performances over 90 minutes have not improved and any self belief Kane may be promoting at the moment is little more than a false dawn, as their next away trip to Chelsea will no doubt reveal.
