Liverpool line-leader boosted for another opener at Swansea

Published:

Ladbrokes are now best odds on Daniel Sturridge bagging the opener when Liverpool visit Swansea in the Premier League by a full point at 11/2.

The bookies were back at 9/2 with a few other firms, but the 25-year-old is the subject of the final first goalscorer price boost of the top-flight weekend.

Sturridge is coming back to himself somewhat after an underproductive start, by the player’s high standards, to his return from five months out through injury.

The former Manchester City and Chelsea forward still only has three goals in 11 appearances all told since coming back at the end of January, but two of them have come in his past five starts, and he has a faultless record in Reds clashes with their next hosts.

Sturridge has scored four goals in three matches against Swansea since signing for Liverpool just over two years ago, after not managing any in two appearances for Chelsea against the Welsh side.

His last, which came at Anfield 13 months ago, opened the scoring in a frantic 4-3 home win, six months on from a fourth-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium.

Clearly Sturridge’s recent form against the Swans makes him a worthy favourite and value at 11/2, and with six of the seven games between these two since Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers swapped one dugout for the other seeing at least three goals scored, there’s also money to be made elsewhere.

The 19/20 about over 2.5 goals should be snapped up, and with each of the past four Premier League meetings between these teams featuring four or more efforts, 9/4 about the 3.5-strike barrier being breached looks very decent.

Both teams have bagged in the past four all-competition Swansea v Liverpool matches and are 5/6 to do so again, while Jonjo Shelvey, who notched and laid on a goal for his old side in this Liberty Stadium fixture last term, is 19/5 in the anytime-scorer market.
