Man City more likely to land Arsenal star than Gerrard successor

Manchester City’s reported interest in England international pairing Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson could yet come to something, according to the latest Ladbrokes odds.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the Sky Blues are lining up a blockbuster double swoop for the Premier League pair as the club looks to bolster its home-grown ranks.

However, Ladbrokes appears to have poured cold water on the likelihood of City recruiting both players with a price of 25/1 offered on the pair signing for the Etihad club this summer.

But while the Sky Blues may run up against a brick wall in any pursuit of Henderson, the bookmaker appears optimistic about City’s chances of landing Wilshere.

Available at 5/1 to move to Manchester City this summer, Arsenal’s wealth of midfield options means that Arsene Wenger could be open to the idea of allowing the 23-year-old to leave, provided they receive a substantial transfer fee from the Sky Blues.

Injury prone and, at times, inconsistent, Wilshere could also see the move as a chance to win the Premier League though on current form a Gunners’ title win looks more likely next term.

Henderson, however, appears set on remaining at Liverpool and taking up the mantle left by Steven Gerrard.

In the midst of a fine season for the Reds so far, the 24-year-old looks primed to become club captain next term and is back at 8/1 to move to the Etihad this summer.

With 1/10 offered on neither player moving to Manchester City, meanwhile, the likelihood remains that the club will have to look elsewhere for English recruits.

But with Arsenal “boasting” a tradition for allowing many of their players to move from the Emirates to the Etihad, provided the price is right, don’t completely rule out a Wilshere move just yet.
