Man Utd desperate to avoid star player going the way of Ronaldo

Only a day or so after being nominated on the PFA Player of the Year award shortlist, Manchester United’s goalkeeper David De Gea is under the microscope again thanks to fresh revelations.

The Daily Mirror report that a journalist appearing on Spanish TV channel La Sexta, has claimed De Gea has given his word to the Champions League holders Real Madrid that he will join this summer.

The newspaper quote Josep Pedrerol saying: “David De Gea has said yes to Madrid,”

“The Manchester United goalkeeper wants to wear the white of Real Madrid from next season. The club considered many options for the goalkeeping situation but have decided on De Gea.

“And David De Gea is clear… he wants to be the Real Madrid goalkeeper.”

Obviously these stunning assertions cannot be verified, but this is not the first time that the 24-year-old stopper has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu.

The speculation surrounding this switch has rumbled on for several years now, bringing about a sense of déjà vu from the time before Cristiano Ronaldo made a long-awaited move to join Los Blancos.

For many players, the lure of joining Real Madrid is too much to resist, and being a native of the Spanish capital itself only intensifies the tractor beam effect for United’s stopper.

Clearly Louis van Gaal and everyone involved at Old Trafford will be bending over backwards to try and ensure this transfer does not go ahead, especially after De Gea’s monumental efforts as number one this season.

Unfortunately, it may come down to the will of the player himself if there is any truth to be found in these bold claims.
