Having reached the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final, won League Two and secured a League One play-off berth in two and a half years with Paul Cook in charge, Chesterfield fans may be concerned for their future after replacing the new Portsmouth boss with Dean Saunders on a two-year deal.

As interim manager of Crawley Town this season, Saunders was unable to prevent them from third-tier relegation, making the Red Devils the third side he has taken down in his past four seasons in a dugout.

Having suffered the drop with both Doncaster and Wolves prior to his Crawley disappointment, it is a wonder how the Welsh striker is able to get hired at such a clearly progressive club.
