Murray’s SW19 opponent 1 of 4 underdogs tipped to register sets

The top four ranked players in the world are due on Wimbledon’s show courts for men’s quarter final day and while it’d take a brave person to predict any of their demises, there could be a humdinger of a multiple bet in the offing.

While a nation will be willing British number one Andy Murray to whistle past Vasek Pospisil without fraying any nerves, the 2013 champ is one of four heavily-fancied favourites earmarked to drop at least one set.

The below four-fold pays out at very pleasing odds of 15/1 if successful, but for those looking to swerve the risk, there are some rewarding individual prices to be had regardless.

Vasek Pospisil (11/1) to win at least one set against Andy Murray (1/33) @ 7/4

This is the biggest mismatch on paper, and in terms of head-to-head, with world number three Murray 2-0 up on the Canadian ranked 53 places lower in regular ATP Tour events, without dropping a set.

However, Murray has conceded a set in each of his last two matches and if Pospisil hits his serving groove again – he won 87 per cent of 1st serve points in round four – then the crowd may be forced to endure some drama.

Gilles Simon (5/1) to win at least one set against Roger Federer (1/8) @ 4/5

Although seven-time champ and last year’s runner-up Federer is looking in ominous form at his spiritual home, 12th seed Simon’s 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 stroll against sixth seed Tomas Berdych last time out was a result of magnitude.

Meanwhile, both prior Slam clashes between these players have gone the maximum distance, firstly at the 2011 Australian Open and then the French two years ago.

Richard Gasquet (7/4) to win at least one set against Stan Wawrinka (4/9) @ 4/11

This is the shortest price of the quartet and for good reason. Seeded 21, Gasquet has only dropped a single set at SW19 ahead of this clash against the French Open champion, whilst he defeated ninth seed Grigor Dimitrov and big-serving Australian Nick Kyrgios en route.

The head-to-head is even at one apiece and their only Slam meeting ended in a five-set thriller two years ago at Roland Garros.

Marin Cilic (15/2) to win at least one set against Novak Djokovic (1/14) @ 11/8

Although Cilic’s 0-12 record against the world number one is dismal, the Croatian has put up a decent of fist of it in Grand Slam meetings with Djokovic.

The reigning US Open champion had lost out 3-1, 3-1 to the Serb in New York and Paris respectively until last season’s Wimbledon when a famous victory was in sight.

Cilic went 2-1 ahead, only for Djokovic to fight back in typically tenacious fashion to nick it 3-2.
