#CultClashes – Tiote stunner features in Newcastle v Arsenal moments

It’s been 10 years and nine matches since Newcastle United scored a victory over Arsenal at St James’ Park, and at 9/2 to bag three points against the Gunners on Saturday, that run looks set to continue.
Over the years the two sides have delivered some cracking matches in the Premier League, from worldies to rare hat-tricks, providing us with five awesome #CultClashes.
Here is the quintet of epic encounters that make our list…
Arsenal 7-3 Newcastle – December 29 2012
Theo Walcott almost single-handedly earned himself a new contract at the Emirates just after Christmas of 2012. The England winger scored a hat-trick and set up two more as Arsenal constantly swatted away Newcaslte’s equalisers.
Some described how Walcott displayed touches and finishes that were almost Henry-esque. It’s probably safe to say he hasn’t gone on to quite match the success of the talismanic Frenchman though.
Newcastle 4–4 Arsenal – February 5 2011
Not only was this a stunning result, but it also featured an absolute belter of a goal. That man Walcott was there to open the scoring inside a minute, as Arsenal raced to a three goal advantage before the clock had reached double figures.
A fourth after 26 minutes looked to have killed United off, with a cluster of Toon fans leaving at half-time.
A brace of Joey Barton penalties sandwiching a Leon Best strike gave them hope, but it was Cheik Tiote’s late equaliser that truly shows why you should never leave a football match before the final whistle.
Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal – March 2 2002
This one is included for one moment and one moment alone, a moment that Nikos Dabizas probably still has nightmares about.
As Robert Pires sent a searching through ball from out wide to Dennis Bergkamp on the edge of the box, the Dutchman’s touch and subsequent cool finish will go down as one of the greatest moments in Premier League history.
The victory for the Gunners seriously dented Newcastle’s Champions League aspirations while also taking their unbeaten run to 16 games.
Arsenal 1-3 Newcastle – December 18 2001
Talking of ending runs, Newcastle’s win in this fixture 14 years ago marked a turning point in their record when visiting the capital. Or at least they will have wished it had.
Prior to this win Newcastle hadn’t triumphed in 29 visits to London, a run that stretched back four years.
But with the help of Uri Geller (who apparently claimed running around the stadium 11 times was the catalyst), Sir Bobby Robson’s men pulled off the victory.
They won next time out in London against Tottenham, but went nine games without beating Arsenal after.
Arsenal 5-0 Newcastle – December 9 2000
You know you haven’t played well when someone scores their only league hat-trick of their career against you.
That was the fate that befell a shabby Newcastle back-line as the Romford Pele himself Ray Parlour netted his only three-goal haul in front of the Highbury faithful.
It should have been a case of keeping it tight at the back for the visitors as with Arsenal not conceding at home in six games, maintaining a close battle may have better suited them.
But with Parlour at his best and Messrs Henry and Kanu helping out up top, it signalled a sorry afternoon for the Magpies.
