Dundee striker should be licking his lips at the thought of Killie

Dundee were the benefactors of Kilmarnock’s lackadaisical start to the Ladbrokes Premiership season, running out 4-0 winners on the opening day, and as the sides prepare to meet once again, there’s one man who will be looking forward to the contest more than most.

Greg Stewart netted twice in that fixture at Rugby Park back in August, taking his record to five goals in four games against Killie.

That return is the highest of any side the 25-year-old has played against more than once.

The former Cowdenbeath man is currently an 18/1 shot to claim the top goalscorer accolade in the division, on five strikes for the season, four behind early pacesetter Steven MacLean of St Johnstone.

With Killie up next though, Stewart has a great opportunity to climb that particular table and force the bookies to cut his odds once again, having been 22/1 at the start of the season.

He is 5/1 to net the opener at Dens Park, while punters can back him to strike anytime at 8/5.

Dees boss Paul Hartley has been handed some fitness boosts ahead of the meeting, with centre-back James McPake set to return from injury for the fixture.

They have lost just one game in their previous six top-flight fixtures, with that defeat coming at the hands of a rampant Celtic outfit.

With just two points separating them from dropping into the bottom six, Hartley will be keen for his men to push on against a side just four points in arrears.

The fitness of Kane Hemmings and Rory Loy, in tandem with the aforementioned Stewart will be key, with the former Alloa boss lamenting injuries and fitness worries that had prevented him playing all three together at times this season.

But the trio look set to give Gary Locke and co a hard time of things and with Stewart’s record against them, it could come down to him to be the difference.
