5 humiliations to match Real Madrid’s Vallecano destruction

Every Monday morning we take a little scan of the weekend’s football results, and sometimes a scoreline will stand out like a sore thumb. This weekend that scoreline came from Spain.
Rayo Vallecano were the architects of their own humiliating downfall against Real Madrid, despite going 2-1 up inside 15 minutes at the Bernabeu.
Two red cards for the visitors before 30 minutes were on the clock signalled disaster, and Los Blancos promptly punished.
Gareth Bale grabbed four, Karim Benzema had a hat-trick, and someone called Cristiano Ronaldo fancied a pair of goals too in a 10-2 (TEN) romp for Real.
Rayo aren’t the first team to endure an utterly dismal afternoon on the football field though, and Ladbrokes News have put together five of the most memorable poundings in recent times…
Man Utd 9-0 Ipswich – April 4th 1995
This match remains the biggest victory in Premier League history and Ipswich fans old enough to remember still lose sleep at night over that dark day in March 1995.
Roy Keane and Andy Cole had Man United 3-0 up at half-time, but the Tractor Boys crumbled after the break en route to finishing bottom of the league with a -57 goal difference. Ouch.
Brazil 1-7 Germany – July 8th 2014
It doesn’t get any more humiliating than this. It was almost cruel.
The semi-finals of the World Cup and hosts Brazil are in raptures over a potential place in the final.
Germany had other ideas however and quickly destroyed David Luiz and co in the most public way possible.
Fulham 6-0 Norwich – May 15th 2005
Back to the Premier League, and if you’re battling relegation on the final day of the season, you would be right in expecting some sort of performance from your team.
Not so for Norwich City in 2005. On the day of West Brom’s great escape, the Canaries needed to step up and win on the last day at mid-table Fulham to ensure survival.
Instead Fulham thoroughly slam dunked Norwich back into the Championship without an away win all season.
Man United 1-6 Man City – October 23rd 2011
Man United had beaten Arsenal 8-2 just two months prior to this first Manchester derby of the 2011-12 season.
City led 1-0 at the interval but two goals in ten minutes from Mario Balotelli and Sergio Aguero saw City home and dry.
Darren Fletcher pulled one back, but City pummelled in three goals in stoppage time to hand their Manchester rivals their worst home defeat in over 55 years.
The Citizens would of course go on to exact further revenge on the final day of the season…
Real Madrid 2-6 Barcelona – May 2nd 2009
Real Madrid began this story, and Real Madrid shall end it. On the losing side.
Barcelona didn’t need to win this fixture, but they promptly put Real firmly in their place at the home of their fierce rivals.
Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi each scored twice, while goals from Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique completed a sublime performance.
Barca didn’t win any of their subsequent league games. They didn’t need to. This result stunned Real into losing their last four matches of the season.
