Charlton make last-gasp bid to loan Arsenal outcast

Published:

They’re battling to stave off relegation into League One, and Charlton are looking to boost that bid late on deadline day with the acquisition of Arsenal’s Yaya Sanogo on loan.

The striker is currently on a season-long loan deal with Ajax, but reports suggest an offer from the south Londoners would see that agreement cut short with Sanogo struggling to get game time in the Netherlands.

Now 23, the Frenchman has failed to kick on in the way colleague Joel Campbell has at Arsenal, with the Costa Rican thrusting himself into first-team contention at the Emirates this season.

However it appears Wenger is still keen to unlock Sanogo’s full potential, and a move to Charlton, albeit with the Championship side at the foot of the table, should see the forward gaining plenty of time on the pitch from now until the end of the season.

The 6ft 4in striker has made just four appearances for the Dutch giants, and none since November, making a move to Charlton and the prospect of first-team football seemingly a straight-forward one.

Impress there under trying circumstances, and Sanogo could yet do what Campbell has done and force himself into the fray in north London.
