Odds tumble on Man United snapping up son of club legend

It’s just hours since Jose Mourinho was announced as Manchester United’s manager, but the Portuguese is believed to already be negotiating this summer’s new arrivals, with Leicester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel reportedly high on his wish list.

The Foxes stopper was an ever present as they lifted the Premier League title, keeping an impressive 15 clean sheets along the way.

His international form has also garnered praise, with the 29-year-old a rare bright spark in Denmark’s unsuccessful Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

And with Man United keeper David De Gea likely to exit in the coming weeks, the former Leeds United man has fallen from 6/1 to 4/1 to follow in his father Peter’s footsteps by joining the Old Trafford outfit this summer.

Denmark’s absence from the Euros also means the Red Devils’ new boss has the entire summer to get a potential deal through.

Reports also suggest that Mourinho has been given a substantial transfer budget this summer, meaning the East Midlands club could trouser a hefty sum if they play hardball over a transfer fee for Schmeichel.

What isn’t up for debate is that United will buy this summer, with the former Chelsea gaffer keen to rejuvenate a squad which missed out on a top-four spot in the 2015-16 Premier League.

It’s 11/10 that Louis van Gaal’s replacement tastes silverware in his first campaign, while 13/2 says United will lift the Premier League crown next season.

And it’s looking increasingly likely that Leicester’s star stopper could be part of any title tilt which takes place at Old Trafford in the next 12 months.
