Milan plays host to the pinnacle of European club football this weekend, with the atmospheric San Siro welcoming Madrid rivals Real and Atletico to contest the 2016 Champions League Final, and if history is to be repeated, you’ll want to pay close attention right until the very end.
The European showpiece has so often been won and lost in the dying moments, so anybody switching off five minutes early will have missed plenty of drama down the years.
There were more than a handful of Man United fans who left the Nou Camp back in 1999 thinking Bayern had the game wrapped up, while each of the last three finals have seen late drama.
So to celebrate this weekend’s finale, we’ve had a little look back at six occasions a late goal had a big old say…
Patrick Kluivert – 1995 – Ajax 1-0 AC Milan
The stuff of childhood dreams.
After a somewhat forgettable final, the then 19-year-old Patrick Kluivert slotted home the winner for Ajax just five minutes from time.
Teddy Sheringham & Ole Solskjaer – 1999 – Man United 2-1 Bayern Munich
And Solskjaer has won it! Has there ever been such a monumentally dramatic late twist?

Didier Drogba – 2012 – Chelsea 1-1 Bayern Munich (Chelsea won 4-3 on penalties)
In his final game (of his first stint) for the Blues, Didier Drogba fired home a superb header in the 88th minute to force extra-time.
Drogba then completed the ‘How to become a Chelsea legend’ guide when he slotted home the winner in the penalty shootout.
Arjen Robben – 2013 Bayern Munich 2-1 Borussia Dortmund
Avenging his penalty miss of twelve months prior, Arjen Robben ensured Jurgen Klopp would lose another cup final three years ago at Wembley.
Dortmund remained resolute, but the tricky winger danced through with a minute on the clock to hand Bayern the treble.
Sergio Ramos – 2014 – Real Madrid 4-1 Atletico Madrid (AET)
Atletico Madrid were just over two minutes away from a famous league and European cup double, when Sergio Ramos popped up to head home an equaliser almost three minutes into stoppage time.
Stunned and knackered, Atletico were torn apart in added-on time, with Real romping to a somewhat unjust 4-1 victory for a famous 10th European crown.
