Champions League: Man City & Arsenal odds of winning UCL

Now that only eight teams after left in the competition, Ladbrokes looks at the odds for Man City, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and others to win Europe’s biggest club tournament, the Champions League.

Arsenal, after drawing 2-2 with Bayern Munich in the first leg of their quarter-final this month are 11/2 to win their first Champions League come the end of the season. Man City, on the other hand, following a thrilling 3-3 draw with Real Madrid, are 6/4 to retain their title at Wembley Stadium on June 1, with a home leg to play at the Etihad Stadium next week.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, two of Europe’s most decorated clubs, are both 7/1 to end up winning the Champions League come the end of the season, alongside PSG, making up the rest of the top five.

Manchester City

The defending champions were one of only two teams to win all six group games and they will have felt confident about reaching the quarter-finals, having faced Copenhagen in the group stage last season, winning 5-0 at the Etihad before sharing a goalless draw in the Danish capital six days later.

Copenhagen were bottom of the table halfway through the group stage following a 1-0 defeat by Manchester United, but they took seven points from the remainder of their games to reach the knockout stage for the first time in 13 years.

The Scandinavians won the Danish title by six points last season, but are finding life a bit tougher this time around, sitting in third place in the Superliga.

Man City made light work of Copenhagen, winning 6-2 on aggregate, to progress to the next round, where they were drawn against Real Madrid. In a thrilling tie in Spain, City held the Spanish giants to a 3-3 draw, so it’s all still to play for in this one.

Champions League winner odds: 6/4

Arsenal

The Gunners would have been reasonably pleased to have been drawn with Porto, who only secured a spot in the knockout stage with a 5-3 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, although they ended up finishing level on points with group winners Barcelona. Arsenal topped their group with four wins and a draw from their six games, including heavy home victories against runaway Dutch leaders PSV Eindhoven and Lens.

However, the Portuguese side shocked Arsenal by beating them 1-0 at home in the first-leg, causing the odds for Mikel Arteta to win the Champions League for the first time to drop from 6/1 to 13/2. The Gunners did win the second-leg 1-0, and subsequently beat Porto on penalties to progress through to the quarter-finals.

They were drawn against Bayern Munich, who have a history of giving them thumpings in the UCL this century. The first leg ended at the Emirates 2-2, seeing Arsenal’s odds increase from 9/2 to 11/2, with the second leg to be played in Germany. Despite that, they’re still seen as the second-favourites to win the Champions League later on this year.

Champions League winner odds: 11/2

Real Madrid

The record 14-time European champions, like City, won all their group games to finish six points ahead of runners-up Napoli and their odds were moved to 11/2 after they were pitted with RB Leipzig.

Real Madrid put themselves in a great position to win La Liga last month by beating second-placed Girona 4-0, thanks to goals from Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham. However, the Spaniards won’t have taken Leipzig for granted, losing 3-2 to the Germans during last season’s group stage, having scored in the last 10 minutes to win 2-0 in the reverse fixture.

Leipzig pushed Manchester City all the way in both games during the group stage and they drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga this season, so they might have proved a tough test. However, Madrid ended up winning 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw in Spain, putting themselves into the quarter-finals. They’ve been given arguably the toughest draw, having to play two legs against Man City, but if they get through that they’ll be confident about their chances of winning the entire competition.

Madrid hosted the English giants in the first leg and drew 3-3. While the result isn’t entirely bad for the Spanish club, the bookies think it’s decreased their chances of winning the Champions League once again, increasing their odds from 6/1 to 7/1 now.

Champions League winner odds: 7/1

Bayern Munich

The Bundesliga champions qualified for the knockout stage with two games to spare in a campaign which saw their 17-game winning run in the group phase end with a goalless draw at home to Copenhagen.

Harry Kane’s spectacular debut season hit a snag during Bayern’s 3-0 loss to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen on last month. Despite that, the Englishman has scored 33 goals in 33 games in all competitions since leaving Tottenham, and will be eyeing up the Champions League as the perfect opportunity to win his first trophy in club football.

However, their odds INCREASED from 4/1 to 7/1 after a 1-0 loss in the first-leg against Lazio. The German giants dropped from second-favourites to fourth-favourites, and faced the real possibility of being knocked out of the competition.

Despite their poor form, Bayern were able to overturn their disadvantage and win 3-0 in Germany, with Harry Kane scoring two goals, as the Englishman dragged his side into the next round. They’re now 7/1 to win the entire competition following their 2-2 draw with Arsenal in England.

Champions League winner odds: 7/1

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG’s owners are desperate to win the Champions League and the Ligue 1 champions’ odds were slashed from 18/1 to 12/1 after being paired with Real Sociedad in the first knockout round.

The French side scraped through the group of death to reach the knockout stage, benefitting from a highly controversial penalty to draw 1-1 at home to Newcastle in their penultimate game.

They were looking down and out when the Magpies took the lead against Milan, and Luis Enrique’s side fell behind to Dortmund, but eventually they went through on a superior goal difference over the Italians.

PSG will be incredibly happy with their performance in the first knockout round though, beating the Spanish side 4-1 on aggregate to progress to the next round, where they’ll face Barcelona.
