Barcelona v Celtic: Ring-rusty Suarez and co. could be vulnerable

Published:

Saturday evening sees Luis Enrique’s Barcelona and Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic come head to head in Dublin in Barca’s first game of the International Champions Cup.

And while the Bhoys will be stepping out for the tenth time in this gruelling pre-season which has included three Champions League qualifiers to date, it will be the first time that Luis Suarez and co. will have played together since their Copa Del Ray victory over Sevilla back in May.

Though Barcelona are massive favourites for this one at 2/9, it’s likely Enrique will see this fixture merely as a fitness exercise for his players, while a win for Celtic (11/1) would surely give the Bhoys even more confidence going into next week’s Champions League second leg tie with Kazakhstan outfit Astana.

Barcelona will be without Neymar, who’s currently with the Brazil squad in preparation for the Olympics, and it’s unlikely that new signings Samuel Umtiti and Andre Gomes will feature given that they both took part in the Euro 2016 final.

However, Celtic fans could see Kolo Toure in action for the first time as he looks to build up his match fitness in preparation for the upcoming season.

Celtic have found the net in seven of their last ten meetings with Barcelona, making the even money for both teams to score look like the best value in this one.

The last time these two sides met, Barcelona ran out 6-1 winners, and punters fancying a repeat of that scoreline can get odds of 50/1.

However, Patrick Roberts and Leigh Griffiths have been standout performers for the Bhoys so far this summer, and should the two take their fine form to Dublin, Celtic might just cause an upset.
