Deadline Day aces make Peterborough United great value for promotion

While there were ins and outs throughout League One on a dramatic Deadline Day, it’s fair to say none of their third-tier competitors could match Peterborough United’s stellar business, which saw several top-class talents arrive at London Road yesterday.
The Posh had already snapped up talented Crystal Palace left-back Jerome Binnom-Williams on a two-year deal earlier in the window, but it’s their trio of 11th-hour loan signings which has really caught the eye.
Perhaps the most exciting is the acquisition of George Moncur from Championship Barnsley.
A player who knows League One extremely well, the 23-year-old was the one shining light in a poor Colchester United side last season, netting 12 times in the league – as well as racking up goals and assists as Col U reached the FA Cup fourth round.
It was north of the border where fellow loanee Nathan Oduwa made his mark last season, with the Tottenham loanee guiding Scottish giants Rangers to a title-winning campaign in the Ladbrokes Championship.
The Bloomsbury-born wing wizard produced a stellar five assists in 15 league outings for the Gers, and rumour has it the Posh have had to battle away other suitors, securing his services until 2017.
And Oduwa is joined by another White Hart Lane prodigy, in the form of highly-rated stopper Luke McGee, who has consistently impressed in the north London club’s youth setup.
Add to that the acquisition of combative former Wales Under-21 winger Gwion Edwards and defensive rock Ryan Tafazoli from Mansfield Town, and other similarly impressive summer arrivals, and there’s a strong argument to be made for Grant McCann’s side starting next season in the Championship.
It’s 7/2 for Peterborough to be promoted from League One this time out, with 11/1 for the East Anglian outfit to lift the title.
Next up for McCann’s side is a home game against Swindon Town, with 5/6 for the hosts to get their first victory over the Robins at London Road since 2013, while 11/5 says Oduwa can get on the scoresheet.
