Everton hoping Koeman’s Dutch connection can land Ajax ace

In desperate need of a mid-season boost, Everton could be about to oust Arsenal and Liverpool in the race for Ajax-departing Riechedly Bazoer.

The 20-year-old midfielder is the latest star to come out of the Dutch giants’ famous academy, and Ajax boss Peter Bosz has all but confirmed the talented star’s exit from the Amsterdam Arena.

The midfielder broke into the Ajax first-team two seasons ago, and became a regular last term.

His consistently impressive performances have attracted international attention too, with Bazoer already the recipient of six caps for the Netherlands.

Bazoer’s contract runs through until 2020, but it appears Ajax are now ready to cash in on their last protégé.

Arsenal and Liverpool were deemed to be the frontrunners for the Dutch international’s signature, but Everton have emerged as serious contenders for one of Europe’s top midfield talents.

The Goodison Park outfit are lacking steel and energy in midfield, and defeat to Watford on Saturday ensured Ronald Koeman’s men have failed to win nine of their last 10 Premier League fixtures.

But it’s Koeman who could prove key, as he reportedly hopes to use his Dutch connections to persuade his compatriot on a move to Merseyside.

Everton will have to move fast though, with German side Wolfsburg preparing a deal too.

The Toffees are back in Premier League action this week when they host Arsenal, but odds on a home win of 3/1 suggest the hosts have plenty of work to do.
