Former Manchester United legend Evra tipped for Crystal Palace deal

Sam Allardyce could be about to bring some Champions League-winning quality to Selhurst Park in the coming days.

The Crystal Palace boss is reportedly closing in on a move for Juventus’ left-back Patrice Evra.

The Frenchman has fallen down the pecking order in Turin, and a number of clubs have been linked with a move.

But it’s believed Palace are the frontrunners, with Evra himself open to a switch to south London.

Big Sam has been a busy man since taking charge of the Eagles last month, and is closing in on a move for the versatile Jeff Schlupp from Leicester.

That deal is believed to be around £12m, but landing Evra on loan would be a real coup for the Eagles.

The former Manchester United man has only featured for a full 90 minutes twice for the Old Lady this season, and has made just six Serie A appearances in total.

He may be 35, but having won five Premier Leagues, a Champions League, three League Cups, a Club World Cup, two Serie A titles and a pair of Coppa Italias, Evra’s C.V and experience would be a sizeable boost for Palace.

The club sit one place and one point above the drop zone, and Allardyce has yet to win since succeeding Alan Pardew.

The former Bolton gaffer will look to get that monkey off his back this weekend, when he takes his side to old employers West Ham.

With the Hammers in disarray over the future of Dimitri Payet, can the Eagles hand them more woe at 2/1?
