ITV Racing Tips: Monarchs Glen is difficult to oppose at Sandown

| 27.04.2017

Racing fans have already been treated to a feast of action this week but there’s no let up with this Friday throwing up some cracking Flat fare from Sandown.

The ITV Racing cameras will present to cover four races from Surrey, with Classic clues and big prize winners set to be unveiled.

From Frankel foals to longshot fancies, we’ve cast our eye over an intriguing card.

Here’s our take on the upcoming action from Esher…

NAP – Monarchs Glen – 14:55 Sandown

Three sons of Frankel will assemble for this cracking Classic Trial and of the high-class trio we think, like many others, Monarchs Glen is the one to beat.

Having finished a narrow second on debut, Frankie Dettori took the mount to record a maiden success at Goodwood before an even more eye-catching victory just over a fortnight ago at Kempton.

Fellow Frankel foals Frankuus and Cunco are perhaps a little exposed now with debut winner Fierce Impact a lively outsider to cause an upset.

But when push comes to shove, we can’t see past the jolly.

NB – Ulysses – 14:20 Sandown

Sir Michael Stoute is the leading trainer in this race with seven wins in total and we’re backing him to win the Gordon Richards Stakes for the first time since 2010.

Ulysses finished the previous campaign with a Group win at Goodwood, second at Windsor and creditable fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf behind Highland Reel.

And he can come on even further as a four-year-old and take this big pot.

He has the pedigree (a son of Galileo) and recent form in the book so don’t be afraid to take on the market leaders.

Lively Longshot – Jallota – 15:30 Sandown

There’s no denying the strong hands held by a number of trainers here, especially Richard Hannon Jr. The Hannons have taken this contest six times in the last 10 years and in Doncaster Mile winner Kool Kompany they have another lively chance.

However, we’re prepared to stick our necks out and look elsewhere with Jallota worth an each-way poke.

This Rock Of Gibraltar gelding is a Group winner in France and loves good ground. While there are a few above him on the list we reckon he’s got definite place claims.

ITV Racing Tips:

13:50 Sandown – Jupiter Light EW

14:20 Sandown – Ulysses

14:55 Sandown – Monarchs Glen

15:30 Sandown – Jallota EW
