Ronald Koeman lays it out to Ross Barkley – sign new Everton deal or be sold

Published:

Everton are on course to claim their second-best Premier League finish in seven years, but the Toffees are still heading for a turbulent summer.

Romelu Lukaku looks set to leave, and following comments from boss Ronald Koeman today, Ross Barkley could follow.

The Everton manager made clear and simple in today’s press conference that Barkley has 10 days to sign a new deal, or he will sell the midfielder.

“Either he accepts the contract or we sell the player,” said the Dutchman.

“But if you need so much time then you have doubts – I like to work with players who like to stay.”

He added: “We don’t wait till August – next weekend we need an answer.”

While the Goodison Park outfit still have two years to cash in on Lukaku’s contract, Barkley’s expires next summer.

So Koeman and Everton face risking the England international leaving for nothing at the end of next season.

Valued at £18.7m by transfermarkt.co.uk, the Toffees could yet sell Barkley for upwards of £30m this summer.

And we make it 4/6 that Barkley is sold before next season arrives.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign on Merseyside, producing nine assists.

But some Everton fans may feel that cashing in on a creative player with just four Premier League goals to his name this season may well be the smart option.

So, where would Barkley go?

Our traders make Tottenham favourites at 5/4, well ahead of Manchester United at 8s.

West Ham, Manchester City and Chelsea are each next in the running at 10/1.

But we can rule out a hop across Stanley Park, with 50/1 saying Barkley joins Liverpool this summer.

For now both Koeman and Barkley will be focusing on tomorrow night’s home clash versus Watford.

We make the England ace 11/2 to score first, and 7/4 anytime.
