Sean Dyche leapfrogs David Moyes and David Unsworth for Everton job

Sean Dyche has been installed as the favourite for the vacant Everton manager’s job following the departure of Ronald Koeman from Goodison Park.

Despite starting as the 8/1 third-favourite this afternoon, Dyche has jumped to the front of the queue and now stands at just 7/4 for the Blues hotseat.

The highly-rated Burnley boss had been strongly linked to the Leicester City job following Craig Shakespeare’s sacking last week.

But after Koeman’s departure on Monday afternoon, it appears likely that Dyche will be opting for the Mersey Blues rather than the East Midlands variety.

His strongest competition for the role looks to be from Everton caretaker boss David Unsworth, who is 5/1 for the permanent position.

Unsworth is well-respected for his work with the Blues youth set-up.

After a summer of spending on Merseyside, he would provide the club with a cheap and similarly progressive alternative to Dyche.

But could the pair be usurped by a former England manager?

Sam Allardyce is the same-price as Unsworth and comes with over 20 years’ extra managerial experience.

The ex-Three Lions chief has previously said that he wouldn’t be attracted to a club that is fighting against relegation. And with the squad, money and ambition that the Toffees have at their disposal, it appears that Allardyce could be tempted back into the game.

Former Goodison favourite David Moyes can’t be ruled out at either at 6/1.

Moyes managed Everton from 2002 to 2013 before failed spells at Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

A return to the Toffees could be just what the doctor ordered for the Scotsman. But will the Blues hierarchy be willing to return to a manager with such a chequered recent history?

Manuel Pellegrini and Rafael Benitez come next at 10/1, before Carlo Ancelotti at 12s.

There’s no doubting that the Goodison board will be doing all they can to persuade Ancelotti of the ongoing project on Merseyside, and that makes his odds extremely tempting indeed.

Of the longer price entries, Mikel Arteta and Roberto Mancini, both at 16/1 should also be considered.
