There may be 10 months to go until the 2019 World Darts Championship, but that hasn’t stopped our punters backing a surprise name for success at the Alexandra Palace.

Fresh from his UK Open final appearance at the weekend, Corey Cadby has been backed by 35% of punters to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy next January.

The Australian prodigy is one of the hottest oche talents around at the moment and is available at 33/1 for Ally Pally success.

Michael Smith is the second-most popular pick with 8% of people backing ‘Bully Boy’ to conquer the field in North London.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a stellar start to the Premier League and is 66/1 to continue that form into the New Year.

World number one Michael van Gerwen is third-most popular at 5%. The Dutchman was beaten in last year’s semi-final by eventual champion Rob Cross (4/1). He’s 11/10 to reclaim his crown.

Gary Anderson and Peter Wright are available at 11/2 and 12/1 apiece.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “He’s the name on everyone’s lips right now and clearly punters reckon there’s value in backing Corey Cadby to go all the way in next year’s World Championships.”
