Who could potentially replace Eden Hazard at Chelsea?

Eden Hazard Chelsea

These are uncertain times for Chelsea. It’s still not clear who’ll be in the dugout at Stamford Bridge next term. Roman Abramovich has put the brakes on their new stadium. And now Eden Hazard has done little to dampen talk of a move to Real Madrid.

Hazard is now just 6/4 to join the La Liga giants. If he does go, it would be a huge blow to Chelsea’s chances of getting back into the top four.

We’ve taken a look at five potential replacements for the Blues’ star player…

Nabil Fekir

Liverpool’s decision to pull out of a move for Fekir could work out well for Chelsea.

The France international scored 18 goals and set up eight more in league action for Lyon last season.

Fekir can play out wide or in central areas, and he shares Hazard’s habit of making opposition defenders look foolish.

Riyad Mahrez

Is Riyad Mahrez the best player outside the top six? His ability to create and score goals for Leicester City make a very strong case.

Mahrez seems to be closing in on a move to Manchester City, but it’s not done just yet. If Chelsea were able to sneak in and seal his signature, they’d be getting a player who can glide past defenders with ease.

The Algerian may not quite be in Hazard’s bracket, but he’d be a very potent attacking weapon.

Gareth Bale

If Chelsea do lose Hazard, there aren’t too many players around of a similar status that they could bring in. Gareth Bale is one of them.

The Welshman hasn’t always been an ideal fit at Real Madrid and it could be time for him to return to Britain this summer.

His unforgettable appearance in the Champions League final offered a reminder of how good he can be at his best. We have Chelsea as a 6/1 shot to bring him in.

Lorenzo Insigne

If Maurizio Sarri gets the Chelsea job, he may well want to bring Insigne with him from Napoli.

Under Sarri’s guidance, the Italian has developed into one of the best wide forwards in Europe. He’s been involved in 68 league goals across the last three seasons.

Having a player who already knows his methods and approach would help to smooth Sarri’s adaptation to English football too.

Anthony Martial

Chelsea are 9/2 to sign Martial from Manchester United this summer, behind Tottenham Hotspur (5/2) and Juventus (4/1).

United may not want to sell to a rival, but Martial could be a world-beater at the right club. He’s got bags of talent, but he doesn’t really suit Jose Mourinho’s tactics.

If Chelsea play a more expansive game, Martial could fulfil his vast potential in West London.
