Man City v Liverpool tips: Title hopefuls meet in New Jersey

| 25.07.2018

Manchester City and Liverpool will continue their pre-season preparations in the early hours when they meet in America.

The Premier League duo both lost their opening International Champions Cup matches to Borussia Dortmund as Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp await a host of players to return from a post-World Cup rest.

Match odds

Our traders have given Liverpool the favourites tag to win at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey at 17/20.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane could be in line to return while summer signing Xerdan Shaqiri could feature in Red for the first time.

City are 13/5, with the draw 27/10. Guardiola had 16 players in Russia, with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Ederson, Vincent Kompany and Kevin De Bruyne yet to return.

Goalscorer odds

The game offers another chance for fringe players to impress. Divock Origi started up front for Liverpool versus Dortmund, but he’s been linked heavily with an exit in recent days.

Daniel Sturridge has looked keen in pre-season so far, and the Englishman could feature more at Anfield this season now Danny Ings is looking for a new club.

He could be in line for a start tonight should Klopp opt to keep Salah and Mane on the bench.

A goal or two tonight would help his cause. Sturridge is 9/2 to score first and 13/10 anytime.

Salah is 16/5 to mark his return with the opening goal, while Shaqiri is 13/2 to bag first.

For City, expect Riyad Mahrez to feature from the outset. The Algerian is 13/2 to score first and 19/10 anytime.

Richard loves his sport, especially if it involves the sound of tyres screaming around a race track. He's not fussy though and his '90s Premier League nostalgia and knowledge of team nicknames is tough to match.
