Hamilton Academical once again defied the naysayers last term, securing another season in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

And they’ve built on that success with some savvy summer additions.

Amongst others, lively Norwich loanee Mason Bloomfield and Falkirk ace Tom Taiwo have made the move. So too former fan-favourite Ziggy Gordon.

Following Accies’ transfer business, captain Darian MacKinnon told us: “There is a bit of excitement because we have some new players and it will be interesting to see how they cope with the Premiership.”

The 32-year-old is keen to make sure Hamilton’s new boys hit the ground running.

MacKinnon explained: ““As captain I have tried to help them settle in and I will do anything I can for them.”

“It’s very important that we make a good start to the season because if you get cut adrift your mind might wander back to last season, and you’ll think ‘here we go again’.”

He’s expecting a tough first test of the Ladbrokes Premiership campaign, as Heart of Midlothian visit New Douglas Park on Saturday.

MacKinnon said: “Maybe the freshness of the new players will help us but I think they will learn right away when Hearts come to town on Saturday what this league is all about.”

But the seasoned midfielder firmly believes the future is bright for Accies. Saying:

“The good thing about our club is that we give young players a chance and I have watched quite a few develop.”

“I saw them coming in as spotty faced kids and they’ll be taking my place in a couple of years!”

Ahead of that meeting with Hearts, Hamilton are 27/10 for victory. Meanwhile, Mackinnon is 13/2 to Score Anytime.
