Hamilton can breathe easy after Ladbrokes Prem play-off triumph

Congratulations are due to Hamilton Academical, who retained their Ladbrokes Premiership status following a Play-Off Final victory over Dundee United.

Accies have been goal shy but decent in defence throughout the campaign, and that was the narrative again here. Martin Canning’s men played out a lively but goalless draw at Tannadice, before triumphing 1-0 in the second leg at New Douglas Park.

And in edging out the Tangerines, the Lanarkshire club made a piece of club history in the process.

Fittingly, it was 20-year-old Accies youth product Greg Docherty who scored the only goal of the two-legged encounter, with a rasping strike past United keeper Cammy Bell in the 64^th minute.

That capped off an impressive campaign for the youngster, who was also awarded the club’s Player of the Year award earlier this month.

There was delight for the squad who – despite a raft of injuries – made it past a talented United side thanks to two extremely solid displays.
